Family Fun Day 1970 v 2014 | Holbrook History

The Club recently held another successful annual Family Fun Day, an event that has traditionally been held each year right from the time the Club was built in the late 1960’s.

Whilst times and trends have moved on, the basic premise is the same – to host a great family day out for members and the local community.  In these pictures from 1970 and 2014, we can see how popular the event was, and how popular it still is now, with over 2,000 people streaming through our doors this year! Back in the 1970’s, short skirts seemed to be the order of the day, and certainly for the ‘Beauty Pageant’ the hemlines varied from modest to rather more daring!

But even now, I don’t think we can beat the marvellous optimism of bringing boats along to the Club – there was a Sailing Section back in the 1970’s!

What is great to see is that no matter how times change, kids will always still enjoy the simple things, and who could resist dancing through a rainbow of bubbles in any era?!
