The session will run between 10.30am and midday on Saturday 11th June

Brighton & Hove Albion’s official charity is holding a free football taster session in Horsham for people who have a disability.

Albion in the Community (AITC) is the largest provider of disability sport in Sussex and runs more than 30 weekly football sessions across the county – helping hundreds of people take part in regular sport.

It also gives people with a disability the chance to play competitively, with a range of teams playing in local, regional and national leagues.
The charity is determined to expand its reach to provide similar opportunities to people in areas of Sussex which is does not yet work in and has organised the pan-disability taster day for Saturday 11 June.

Qualified coaches from AITC will be at the Holbrook Club in North Heath Lane between 10.30am and midday and anyone who has a disability and an interest in playing sport is welcome to go along and take part. There is no age restriction – other than over fives only – and children and adults are welcome.

The Holbrook Club has given AITC use of its 3G pitch free of charge and local junior club Horsham Sparrows is also supporting the event.

Paul Brackley, AITC’s disability manager, said: “This is a fantastic chance for people who have a disability and live in the Horsham area to come along, meet our coaches, give football a try and find out about the opportunities available to them.

“We believe that everyone should have the chance to play regular football regardless of whether or not they have a disability. People with a disability are no different to anyone else in that some people like to play socially or for exercise while others want that competitive element. We have sessions to suit everyone.”

AITC has won a string of awards for its disability sport programme and has recently added an amputee football team to its list of clubs. The charity is also planning to launch a session for young people with autism.
