Rob’s H.I.I.T. tips

Welcome to our new interactive blog. From myself Rob Owen, Fitness Manager, and the rest of the team, I hope you find our posts useful for getting the most out of your time in the gym.

Today I will be getting the ball rolling with some great advice to get you past this Christmas and New Year gorge.

H.I.I.T!

Already one of my most common used style of training with 1-2-1 clients and a lot of you members have asked me about it too. So what is H.I.I.T? High Intensity Interval Training. The key part of this is its interval training and not continuous.

This method of training can be used for any age, gender and fitness level. You start slow and build yourself up. Start by trying this once a week and gradually build it up.

Best thing is you only need a stopwatch!

Break down your workout into individual exercises. Now, instead of using rep ranges or long duration to make yourself sweat, try giving it your all for 30 seconds then resting for 30 seconds and repeat this for a minimum of 5 times and see how you feel. If you find you need more time to recover or vice versa less time experiment with your rest:work time ratio. Please don’t hesitate if you want some guidance whilst giving this a go. Any member of the gym team will help you master this form of training.

The benefits you will see from this style of training is vast from; an increased metabolism, to greater cardio endurance and muscular endurance and getting some definition into those muscles.

Yours in Fitness,

Rob
